Commercial Real Estate:
Top ranked by Chambers since 2003, the firm’s real estate practice group is involved in many of Virginia’s most significant real estate developments, transactions and financings. With an office in Northern Virginia, the firm’s reach extends to the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Firm lawyers represent developers, property owners and tenants in connection with the acquisition, development, financing and leasing of income-producing property and raw land for office complexes, corporate headquarters, planned unit developments, hotel properties, retail projects and mixed-use urban development projects. The group represents lenders in construction and permanent financings, including syndicated financings, and in the resolution and recovery of problem loans, including restructurings, repositionings, foreclosures, collections and bankruptcies. The group also focuses on highly specialized litigation involving zoning and land use, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare, insurance coverage, securities and fiduciary matters, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, class actions and employment law. Hirschler Fleischer trial lawyers have handled some of the largest and most complex litigation matters in the courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The group has also handled complex shareholder and other disputes, with the assistance of local counsel, in the Delaware Court of Chancery. Owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and design professionals equipment manufacturers engage the firm’s Virginia-based construction practice group for its commanding expertise in bidding, negotiations, project management and dispute resolution. When dispute resolution becomes necessary, the group pilots projects through mediation, arbitration, trial and the appellate process. Members of the construction group are active in the Associated General Contractors of Virginia and represent a large percentage of the general contractors and subcontractors in the Virginia/mid-Atlantic region. The team includes two AAA Certified Arbitrators and a licensed professional engineer.
Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights:
Recognized by Chambers as one of the top bankruptcy practices in Virginia, the firm’s bankruptcy team includes a past chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Richmond Bar Association, a past president of the Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association, a former bankruptcy trustee for the District of Columbia, a past chair of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the District of Columbia Bar and two judicial law clerks.
