Gurvir Birang, the founder of the firm, has been repeatedly ranked in Chambers and Partners as an impressive commercial litigator having carved out a niche practice in restructuring and negotiating debt finance, particularly reconsolidating bank debt. Gurvir had previously acted for the Indian State Banks and now works closely with the HMRC debt recovery department in negotiating debt for his clients. He is known as the "go to" lawyer in relation to bankruptcy defence work, asset protection, negotiating repayment terms with the HMRC, negotiating settlements with Insolvency Practitioners in respect of ownership disputes, prosecuting negligence claims against professionals and challenging trustees and their lawyers' costs. Gurvir has an impressive client base ranging from a previous president of Gambia, Wall Street investment bankers, directors of Fortune 500 companies, premier league footballers, famous artists and fellow legal professionals. He is routinely instructed by well-known entrepreneurs in respect of their affairs and litigation internationally. He acts for prominent Asian business award winners and leading religious institutions, being regarded as an exceptional strategist, negotiator and litigator.
Gurvir is an active member of the insolvency community and has headed up a London-wide debt pilot project for the government as well as being a member of R3 Business Recovery and the PNLA.
Gurvir graduated from the London School of Economics with a 1st in the Law of International Finance and worked for Merrill Lynch. He then trained at a niche city practice, representing the Indian State banks and established West London Law whilst 3 years qualified, some 13 years ago.
