A commercial litigator specialising in property and property related disputes, with a niche practice in Water Law and environmental pollution. He is one of only a few practitioners with extensive knowledge of the environmental permitting regulations; see R v SWS (2014) EWCA. Previous publications have described him as a “razor sharp intellect” and “one of those rare advocates who is as strong on his feet as in drafting advice and pleadings”. Clifford has appeared in over 40 reported decisions of which some of the most recent are MWB v Rock Advertising  EWCA (anti-oral variation clauses and consideration by part-payment of existing debt), Hniazdzilau v Zlot  EWHC (3 week trial of trust claim to a $6 billion property in Minsk) and Eddery v Hogg  EWHC (successful appeal against summary judgment on contract for sale of land). He frequently acts in mortgage related proceedings and appeared in the Court of Appeal cases of Green King v Stanley  B.P.I.R, Johnson v EBS Trustees  Lloyds Rep and Earp v. Kurd (2014) EWCA. He is presently instructed in a number of claims arising out of the payment of undisclosed commission to mortgage brokers; see CFB Ltd v. Atkins  EWCA.
