More than 75 years in the market characterises this full-service law firm, with offices in La Paz and Santa Cruz. It was founded in 1940 by Dr Carlos Aguirre R, who was also elected as Justice of the Bolivian Supreme Court. The firm was reorganised as a civil corporation in 1998.

The mining and arbitration practices are coordinated by senior partner Dr Fernando Aguirre B (postgraduate diploma in law, Oxford University), arbitrator at the National Chamber of Commerce, La Paz, the Kuala Lumpur International Centre for Dispute Resolution and past arbitrator in the panel of arbitrators of ICSID. Fernando is chairman of the board of directors of the Coca-Cola bottlers in Bolivia and Sindico at Minera San Cristobal SA, a Sumitomo Bolivian subsidiary. He is a member of the ICC Latin America Arbitration Group and of the Latin America Arbitration Association. He is the honorary legal adviser to the British Ambassador in Bolivia, and has been ranked among the leading mining and arbitration lawyers in the world.

Partner Ignacio M Aguirre U (LLM in law and development at the London School of Economics) coordinates the firm’s oil and gas and banking and securities practices. Ignacio is member of the board of directors of Credibolsa SA, a local brokerage company, the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce — AMCHAM in Bolivia, and Sindico at Banco Solidario S.A.

Partner Milenka Saavedra M (master in regulation and competence, Universidad Andina Simón Bolivar, La Paz), heads the tax, litigation and regulation practices of the firm.

Partner Carolina Aguirre U (master in corporate and fiscal legal counselling, EADA Barcelona), manages the firm’s office in Santa Cruz and her practice areas include labour law, commercial law, real estate and arbitration. She is the Bolivian member of the Latin American Regional Forum — Young Council and Country Representative of the Young Lawyers Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA), and is also in charge of editing Orientacion Legal, a publication of the firm.

On October 2017, after more than 17 years of intensive activities, the IP practice of the firm, headed by partner Perla Koziner (LLM in intellectual property, Queen Mary College, London), was merged with the IP practice of QUINTANILLA, SORIA & NISHIZAWA, another traditional firm in Bolivia. As a result of said IP practice merger, a new venture under the name of Meliora IP SC was created.
