Firm profile submitted by FALM

FALM was founded by its four partners at the end of 2006. The firm is, above all, the result of its partners’ and associates’ experience in different practice areas, legal counselling and teaching, in particular within the different areas of public law, but also in the fields of private and business law. FALM acts for a comprehensive range of corporate clients of recognised national and international success. FALM is a young firm, made up of a strong team of lawyers who embrace their job with conviction.

Planning & Real Estate:
The firm has advised a large number of companies in some of the main real estate projects in Portugal and in a relevant number of acquisitions in other areas. With a strong emphasis on all aspects of planning, including zoning and development instruments, licensing and prior clearance procedures with central and local government authorities, the firm works with its clients from the very inception of a project, usually the acquisition of the site, to the licensing and zoning procedures, to the construction and sale of the finished product.

Construction & Infrastructures:
FALM has wide ranging experience acting both for private and public entities in a relevant number of public and private deals, usually involving project-finance deals. The firm has acted in most major public tender procedures held in Portugal in the last years and its lawyers have accompanied several tender procedures from 1990, not only as consultants of bidders and grantors, but also as members of the tender opening and evaluation commissions and advising concessionaire companies. This experience has allowed the firm to be familiar with complex projects as well as approaches by buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, in risk taking or sharing and any other issues relevant to achieve a successful deal in complex international infrastructure bids, in large national projects and other important deals.

Litigation:
The firm is active in dispute resolution and litigation, mainly with regard to the administrative jurisdiction, where, over the years it has brought proceedings against central and local government agencies on behalf of clients, but is also often sought by other administrative authorities for advice and representation. Civil procedures are also an integral part of the firm’s everyday activities.

Clients:
The firm’s clients operate mainly in the field of real estate and development, as well as the construction, public infrastructure and contracting sectors.
