Firm profile submitted by Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP

Throughout its history, Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP (FWTA) has been repeatedly recognised nationally and internationally as a leading Canadian labour and employment law boutique exclusively representing employers. The firm developed its expertise in labour and employment law over several decades. The firm originally evolved from Ferguson, Montgomery, Cassels and Mitchell, founded in 1953. In 1982, Warren K Winkler, QC, Roy C Filion, QC, and David I Wakely formed Winkler, Filion & Wakely. Warren Winkler was appointed to the bench in 1993 and became Chief Justice of Ontario in 2007. Since its founding, the partnership has grown substantially. A London, Ontario office was opened in 2003, and a third office in Hamilton, Ontario, opened in 2013, each enhancing service to clients throughout Southwestern Ontario.

The lawyers of FWTA represent and advise in-house counsel, executives, managers and human resources professionals on all aspects of the law governing the relationship between employers and their employees. The firm advises public and private sector employers on their rights in relation to labour relations, employment standards, occupational health and safety, human rights, workers’ compensation, pensions, benefits, pay equity, and the common law. Lawyers regularly litigate cases before numerous administrative tribunals and the courts. The firm also advises employers in developing and maintaining sound labour relations and employment policies. For employers involved in labour negotiations, the firm participates at the bargaining table or behind the scenes. Clients include both federally and provincially regulated employers, operating in diverse sectors of the economy including retail, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, education, hospitality, transportation and government.
