Clinical negligence specialist with some 35 years’ experience and founding partner of Barcan Woodward (now Barcan+Kirby). Richard's cases have ranged from catastrophic brain and spinal injuries, including cerebral palsy and maternal birth injuries, through to fatal injury claims, however he has vast experience of most other types of clinical negligence claims. Richard acted for the claimant in RH v University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, a 2008 landmark test case relating to the indexation of Periodical Payments, and was lead solicitor when this and others in the Thompstone group of cases reached the Court of Appeal and House of Lords.
