Pippa McAtasney is a London criminal silk and a Bencher of Lincolns’ Inn with a wide-ranging practice. She has an excellent record both defending and prosecuting cases concerning murder, manslaughter, serious sexual offences, violent crime and fraud. She has a specialist practice in police misconduct work and has represented many officers, both senior and junior both at tribunals and the Crown Court. She has acted for several companies in Health and Safety cases and accepts instructions in all areas of crime in both Crown and Magistrates’ courts. Recently, as well as murder cases both defending and prosecuting (including the prosecution of a mother who admitted murdering her baby and a man who stabbed and set fire to a young mother) she has successfully defended a Durham University student accused of rape and sexual assault; a policeman accused of historic sexual abuse of his stepdaughter and a youth accused of sexual assault of a fellow pupil. Less significant cases include the successful defences of a bottom touching allegation and a minor “keying” of a BMW car. In addition, Pippa acts as a legal advisor to companies producing TV drama, the best known being all three series of the BBC drama “Silk”.
Philippa is a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn and a qualified advocacy tutor. She is a member of the South Eastern Circuit and the Western Circuit. She is Chair of the Surrey and South London Bar Mess and also a member of the Criminal Bar Association and the Sussex Bar Mess.
Philippa went to University at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She was called to the bar in 1985 and took silk in 2006.
Philippa is married and has two daughters.
