Alan Kent QC moved to Carmelite Chambers in October 2014. He is an established criminal silk who defends and prosecutes in all manner of complex criminal cases ranging from Murder to Sexual Offences and Fraud. Alan is an extremely popular and sought after advocate. He is constantly in demand by defence solicitors & the CPS alike. He is a great team player but also a first class leader. His client skills are second to none. Has conducted well in excess of 100 homicide cases, from the straightforward single handed cases to multi handed cases involving cut throat defences and joint enterprise. Recently represented the first defendant in a 7 handed murder trial at Birmingham Crown Court which the prosecution described as “medieval warfare on the streets of Birmingham in the 21st Century” He is regularly instructed to represent young and vulnerable defendants, those with mental health issues and is frequently instructed in cases involving vulnerable witnesses. He recently represented a 75 year old former care worker who was accused of multiple historic sexual offences against boys in a children’s home from the early 1970’s to the 1990’s. The trial resulted from a long running police inquiry into the conduct of the staff. The judge described it as “...abuse of the very worst kind” Recent fraud work includes representing the financial controller of a major company who was accused of being involved in a ‘Factoring Fraud’ in which over £40m of false invoices were submitted to Barclays Bank. Appellate work includes acting on behalf of the Crown in the leading authority on hearsay, R v Riat and others.
