Barney is an advocate at the Scottish bar practicing in the fields of personal injury, clinical negligence and criminal and regulatory law.
Barney acts for both pursuers and defenders in litigation relating to personal injury and professional negligence. He has a particular specialism in industrial disease, including fatal mesothelioma and lung cancer claims. Barney regularly acts for Health Boards in a wide range of matters and is instructed on behalf of NHS Scotland in the Mesh litigation “class action” currently proceeding before the Court of Session.
In his criminal and regulatory practice, Barney is instructed in matters of complexity relating to health and safety, environmental, fisheries protection, food hygiene, road traffic and proceeds of crime legislation.
Barney is a capable court lawyer with considerable experience in conducting litigation at proof or trial. He is familiar with the demands of large cases involving complex issues and significant quantities of documentary evidence. He is regularly instructed to appear in the Court of Session, the High Court of Justiciary and the Sheriff Courts across Scotland.
