Department profile submitted by Martinez de Hoz & Rueda

MHR is in a unique position due to our expertise in all segments of the energy business, including exploration, production, transportation, distribution and marketing of hydrocarbons in the country, as well as electricity generation and distribution.

We are the only law firm that acts as an adviser to the two Chambers of the Oil Industry in Argentina. We also represent banks and international financial institutions in the financing of oil and gas and other energy related projects.

Most of these projects require a highly experienced law firm in order to deal with complex legal issues. In these projects we draw on the experience of our lawyers trained in different areas such as oil and gas, electricity, regulatory issues, taxation, corporate finance and general business law.

Consistently with our leadership in the energy field in Argentina, we are the first and only fully integrated law firm to open an office in Neuquén to advise companies and institutions investing in oil, gas and energy (thermal, hydro and renewables) projects under a “one-stop-shop” scheme.

Since then, MHR´s team has advised clients carrying out tight/shale oil and gas projects totaling approximately US$4 billion, including YPF, ExxonMobil, DOW, Wintershall, IFC, Total Austral, Saipem, EOG, Petroquimica Comodoro Rivadavia, CGC, Retamco Operating, Capex, President Petroleum, Sinopec, TGS,  and EOG. Recently, we advised ExxonMobil in their deal with Qatar Petroleum and Trafigura in their deal with Pampa.
