Sophia is a Partner in Lennox Paton’s Commercial Litigation department in Nassau, Bahamas. She appears regularly as Lead Counsel and Junior Counsel before the Bahamian Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. Sophia’s overall practice areas include advising clients with respect to liquidations, shareholder disputes, contractual disputes, trust litigation, property disputes, fraud and asset tracing Norwich Pharmacal applications, applications for injunctions and other interlocutory relief. Sophia has a broad range of experience and has represented clients in multi-jurisdictional matters and has been named in ‘Global Restructuring Review’s 40 Under 40’.
Sophia is a Fellow of INSOL International and nominated for the III NextGen Leadership Program (Class VI). She has experience in speaking at various international conferences such as the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL International and the American Bar Association (Section of International Law).
Sophia has over ten years of experience as an Attorney and represents liquidators, receivers, creditors, debtors, lending institutions, insurers, and investors in all aspects of liquidations and receiverships. Sophia has recently been involved in several prominent cross-border insolvency cases including the application for recognition of Chapter 11 foreign proceedings commenced by Northshore Mainland Services Inc. (Debtor) and the Baha Mar Companies (In liquidation); an application for recognition proceedings on behalf of Liquidators of Cayman based Caledonian Bank (In liquidation) followed by ancillary winding up proceedings with respect to Caledonian Bank; the liquidation of AWH Fund Ltd. which involves setting aside a clawback claim which is currently being appealed to the Privy Council; and the composition with creditors and bankruptcy proceedings concerning Sir Anthony O’Reilly.
Sophia enjoys legal research and has written articles which have been published in several highly respected legal journals such as Insolvency Intelligence, Sweet & Maxwell, International Insolvency Law Review (IILR), Verlag C.H. Beck, and INSOL WORLD 4th Quarter 2016 Africa and Offshore. She is also the exclusive 2017 Contributor for Lexology’s Insolvency and Restructuring Chapter on The Bahamas.
