Trust Companies — Cayman Islands

Genesis Trust & Corporate Services Ltd.

From the HNW guide

Originally started by partners from KPMG, Genesis Trust became independent in 2004 and is a boutique outfit based in the Cayman Islands. The firm offers a range of corporate and trust services, and its clients include institutional trust clients and high net worth individuals.

Genesis Trust is known for dealing with trickier cases, as one interviewee explains: "They'll consider trusts in difficult positions. They will roll their sleeves up and get involved in things other trustees don't want. They will go out in the choppy waters, and they have that part of the market sewn up." Multiple sources also praise Roger Priaulx and Paul Drake, with one interviewee describing them as "a sensible head," and "very commercial and pragmatic," respectively.

In September 2016 Intertrust acquired Elian, which has significantly bolstered the firm's private client offering. Multiple sources highlight David Lambotte, previously Elian's head of private wealth Caribbean, as a particular asset for Intertrust. One interviewee explains: "He's very good. His strength is that he has experience as a trust officer from a young age, and then as a business development person for RBC, so he knows how to bring in new business and handle the client relationship side of things as well as trust administration."

The Intertrust team is also well regarded, with one market insider commenting that "they've made some very good hires." A global firm with multi-jurisdictional capabilities, Intertrust provides fiduciary services to wealthy individuals, business owners, and family offices.

Summit Trust (Cayman) Limited

From the HNW guide

Summit Trust, a highly regarded international trust company with a particularly strong base in Geneva, is establishing a well respected practice in the Cayman Islands under the leadership of private client lawyer Marcus Parker. One Cayman attorney comments: "They have a fabulously highly regarded offering in Geneva, they've been administering Cayman trusts from there for a long time, and now they are setting up a Cayman business which is great for the jurisdiction."

The firm looks after a small number of global HNW families, and focuses on private client work. It is also able to step in as trustee of existing trusts when litigation is pending and the trustees are potentially being replaced.
