Practice Areas: Specialises in brand management (franchising, advertising and marketing), advising both domestic and international clients. Advises not only traditional retail, F&B and services clients on using a franchise model to grow their business, but also advises atypical business formats, such as television channels. Heads the firm's specialist Group. Acts for both agencies and corporate advertisers advising on the legality of sales promotions, advertising copy, structuring legal free prize draws and skill-based competitions, advertising contracts and ASA complaints. Particular experience in food and cosmetic sectors. Also specialises in all forms of brand exploitation including sponsorship, endorsement, merchandise and image rights agreements and brand extension deals.
Professional Memberships: Member of International Bar Association; International Franchise Association, Promotions Marketing Association, Inc and external Counsel to ISBA and the Advertising Association.
Career: Joined Field Fisher Waterhouse in 1996, Partner in Commercial IP Group.
Publications: Co-author of Butterworth's "Encyclopedia of Forms and Precedents" for Franchising, Agency and Distribution, the standard text in this area.
Personal: St Andrews University (1988, MA in English and Medieval History). Worked in Czech Republic and France. Interests include running, hill walking and wall building.
