Capital Markets:

The capital markets practice comprises over 420 partners and lawyers who concentrate on securities transactions and other products sold into the capital markets. Mathieu Remy has standout M&A experience in the financial services sector, on both domestic and cross-border mandates. He gains plaudits from clients, with one commenting: “He's incredibly thorough and very able – he finds a way to convince the other side in negotiations.”  

Gilles Lebreton is noted for his experience in M&A, restructuring and LBOs. He recently advised Wendel on its USD175 million investment in the IHS Group.

Alhassane Barry co-heads the firm's OHADA francophone Africa subgroup. As well as corporate and M&A work, his broad practice covers energy and natural resources, infrastructure mandates and project finance. He speaks English, French, Mandingo, Fulani and Sussu.

Anthony Giustini is recognised for his extensive knowledge of matters related to infrastructure, energy and international projects. He co-heads the firm's Africa and worldwide projects groups.

Jason Fry and Jean-Pierre Grandjean are the two Paris arbitration partners and the main points of contact for the practice. The team is recognised for its experience of arbitration under ICC and other rules including ICSID, LCIA, SCC and UNCITRAL.

Projects - France

Anthony Giustini co-heads the worldwide projects group. He has 27 years of experience in this area, focusing mainly on the development and financing aspects of oil and gas, mining, infrastructure and energy projects across EMEA. One source describes him as "a legend in his own right – probably one of the most experienced projects lawyers out there. He's excellent at mitigating risk and outstanding at resolving deadlocks in tough negotiations."

Nikolaï Eatwell specialises in project financing, notably in Africa and Eastern Europe. His sectors of expertise include oil and gas, mining, power and telecommunications. One interviewee describes him as "just outstanding. In addition to being a very nice person who's easy to work with, he's also really committed. You can count on him round the clock to never miss a deadline. He's extremely smart and very, very capable."

Nicholas Wong advises banks and sponsors on matters across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He played a key role in advising SOCAR on the development of an integrated oil refinery, gas processing plant, power plant and petrochemical complex. Clients describe him as "very solid, and able to pick up the pieces and do a good job." He is qualified in New Zealand and the UK.

Delphine Siino Courtin has significant experience of project financing matters in both Europe and Africa. Key sectors of expertise include oil and gas, energy, mining and infrastructure, and she has worked on matters in Morocco, Tunisia and West Africa. 

Restructuring/Insolvency - France

Sources say Reinhard Dammann is "incredibly capable and on top of the new legislation in France." He advises on insolvency law in France, and on cross-border transactions. He is noted for his expertise in European insolvency proceedings and for his ability to assist clients from his native Germany.

Tax - France

Eric Davoudet's areas of expertise include real estate transactions, M&A and LBOs. "He's very pragmatic and identifies and analyses the risks of what we're working on, evaluates them, and then finds a way to overcome them," notes a source.

Alexandre Lagarrigue handles the tax aspects of major transactions. Key areas of activity include M&A, restructuring, LBOs and real estate transactions.

Corporate/M&A - Germany

Arndt Stengel heads the German corporate group. He recently represented EADS in the sale of a 4.8% stake in the company by a banking consortium to KfW Bankengruppe.

Wolfgang Richter's recent mandates include advising Volkswagen on the creation of an integrated automotive group with Porsche.

Respected figure Andreas Dietzel frequently assists global household names with international M&A transactions.

Having spent four years as head of the firm's Beijing office, Mandarin speaker Stefanie Tetz is a specialist in Chinese matters. She headed the team that advised Jiangsu Jinsheng Industry Stock Co. on its acquisition of natural fibres and textile components business units from the Swiss company Oerlikon in a CHF650 million deal. She is described by sources as "hard-working, professional and dedicated."

Marc Bartholomy heads the corporate practice in Moscow. He is a long-established name in the market for M&A and joint ventures across Russia and the rest of the CIS, and is also well regarded for his Germany expertise.

Corporate/M&A - India

Commentators confirm that Frankfurt-based partner Christoph Witte has "invested a lot of time and energy in India work." His core areas of practice include restructurings, joint ventures and M&A.

This team is experienced in representing Indian clients in a range of transactions including joint ventures and supply agreements. It has recently acted for a raft of major names in the market, among them Mahindra & Mahindra, Griffin Coal and Tata Power. The firm's global India group has a total of 44 partners, and is headed up by Geraint Hughes in Singapore.
