This award-winning team has seen substantial growth in areas such as environmental and natural resources, oil and gas, project finance and energy trading. Representative matters include: a victory in the Supreme Court of Ohio, where a 7–0 decision established precedent in interpreting the state’s electric power ‘reasonable arrangement’ statute; advising on a large road sector public-private partnership project in the country of Georgia; and a substantial victory in challenging Puerto Rico’s rejection of a client’s plans to expand a shipping terminal in San Juan harbor.

Financial Institutions & Funds:
The firm offers financial institutions sophisticated legal services to plan, deploy, protect and defend their interests. Representative matters include: acting as counsel to the American Securitization Forum in connection with numerous comment letters on proposed regulations affecting the securitization industry; and representing an international financial services group as an underwriter in connection with two landmark securitizations that represented some of the first publicly offered residential MBS issued since the onset of the credit crisis.

Government:
For governmental bodies, regulatory agencies, public sector contractors,multilateral institutions and nonprofit institutions, SNR Denton offers counsel shaped by the experience of lawyers and professionals who have served in governments worldwide. Representative matters include: advising a government division of a Persian Gulf city on the development of policies, legislation and regulations for land transport activities; acting as counsel to several federal government departments and government-supervised institutions in matters related to the financial crisis; provided advice in regard to one of the largest privatization transactions in Kenya; and representing the government of a Southeast Asia country in relation to the establishment of a joint venture bank.

Health & Life Sciences:
SNR Denton helps clients meet the rigors of a competitive marketplace and find solutions amid dramatic scientific and medical advances, healthcare reform,regulatory uncertainty, limitations on intellectual property protection and unstable financial markets. Representative matters include: partnering with HCA, Inc., to analyze the impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on its business, which includes 163 hospitals and more than 105 freestanding ambulatory surgery centers; and working with several divisions of Abbott Laboratories as one of its principal outside health care/life sciences, fraud and abuse, compliance and regulatory counsel.

Insurance:
SNR Denton services numerous clients in this sector, including recently: providing advice to one of the world’s leading specialists in insurance services regarding US healthcare legislation; working on instructions of a marine insurer based in Japan to assist an insured from another country regarding numerous cargo damage claims resulting from a collision with a ship in Vietnamese waters; advising a global life reinsurer on providing reinsurance outside the jurisdiction for a Middle East country’s insurance companies; and acting as lead counsel in a complex acquisition arbitration under ICC rules, under the aegis of a Middle East arbitration group and handling all enforcement procedures after the issuance of the award in its client’s favor.

Manufacturing:
SNR Denton services numerous clients in this sector, with recent matters including: advising Nokia Corporation on the disposal of its Symbian Consultancy Businesses to Accenture in eight countries; representing GlaxoSmithKline in a qui tam whistleblower litigation alleging violations of the False Claims Act in connection with Paxil, a drug that generates more than US$1 billion in annual sales for GSK; and working as lead trial counsel of a two-firm defense team to successfully represent Monsanto Company in litigation that included putative class actions in 13 different corn- and soy-growing states.

Real Estate, Retail & Hotels:
Whether its offering strategic counsel to a hotel investor on key business and legal issues related to a complex, long-term management agreement, or advising an online retailer with regard to product liability issues or representing a major commercial real estate developer with respect to environmental land use issues, SNR Denton comprises a core team of internationally respected lawyers who focus exclusively on these three key industry sectors. Recent representations include representation of Brookfield Real Estate Financial Partners with respect to its hotel and casino portfolio in the US, Mexico and Caribbean; representation of a major commercial and residential land development and investment company as outside counsel in regard to numerous matters for projects across the globe; and advising a royal borough in the UK in connection with a proposed £172m regeneration/development for a mixed retail/commercial and residential scheme, including concluding the development agreement.

Technology, Media & Telecommunications:
From corporate transactions to IP, licensing to outsourcing, venture capital to data protection, SNR Denton leverages decades of experience counseling clients with a suite of advocacy, operational, transactional, compliance and risk mitigation services. Representative matters include: acting as regular trademark and media counsel in the US for A&E Television Networks LLC; advising Sony regarding its acquisition of a Sky EPG slot and other assets from the Film 24 channel; and providing regulatory and transaction advice to Vodafone in connection with the launch of a fixed network in Qatar and with the government's plans to establish a super-fast national broadband network in partnership with Vodafone Qatar and Q-Tel.
