Litigation: Securities (Band 2)Profile
Practice Areas: Mr. Peiffer does a variety of commercial litigation work. He regularly represents investors in claims against their financial advisors and broker dealers. Additionally, he represents various West Virginia hospitals and Louisiana entities in cases arising out of their issuance of auction rate securities. He also represents various class action plaintiffs, including the Louisiana Firefighters Pension Fund, in cases involving losses from securities lending. He is on the steering committee for a nationwide antitrust class action.
Mr. Peiffer represented 32 Exxon retirees in a 90-day NASD arbitration against Securities America that resulted in a $22 million verdict -- one of the largest ever awarded by an NASD arbitration panel. He subsequently represented hundreds of individuals in claims against their brokers.
Mr. Peiffer has been quoted by many national publications and has appeared on CNN Headline News. He regularly speaks at national conventions on FINRA arbtiration, early retirement claims and prosecuting group claims. He was selected as a member of the Leadership in Law by New Orleans City Business.
Professional Memberships: Mr. Peiffer is a member of the American Association for Justice where he serves as the Chairperson of the Business Torts section. He is also a director of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association and a member of the Louisiana Bar Association.
Career: Mr. Peiffer graduated cum laude from Tulane Law School where he was a member of the Tulane Law Review. He is co-authoring a book for Thompson-West entitled Litigating Business Torts. He regularly teaches Trial Advocacy at Loyola University School of Law where he also co-created and taught a class entitled Storytelling and Advocacy.
