Practice Areas: Partner and a Member of the Management Committee for nine years. Leads the firm's practice in competition and antitrust matters, including domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, counselling and litigation. Regularly represents large multinational companies in negotiated and contested acquisition-related transactions, governance matters, civil and criminal antitrust matters and litigation. Lead Counsel for Roche in its current hostile tender offer for Illumina and acquisition of Genentech and in its contested takeover of Ventana, Gillette in its acquisition by Procter & Gamble and Comcast in its acquisition of AT&T Broadband. One of the two lead negotiators for the US tobacco industry in the effort to resolve, through legislation and settlements, the legal issues facing that industry. Represented Freeport in the criminal investigation of the copper concentrate industry and Hoffmann-LaRoche in the vitamin cartel litigation and was counsel of record for the defense group in the Supreme Court. Is currently a Director and member of the Executive Committee of Emerson Electric, a Trustee of Rensselaer and has been on the board of several other NYSE companies.
