THE FIRM With a focus on the individual, Balfour+Manson LLP is a leading pursuer litigation firm with a particular emphasis on medical negligence and personal injury. Alongside this is an extensive Private Client practice undertaking a broad range of services including property, charities, wills, trusts and executries and a highly experienced Commercial Team.
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK
Litigation: Acting on behalf of the pursuer, the Litigation Team is one of the largest in Scotland and has particular expertise in personal injury work. Success in high-profile cases include the Glasgow Stockline factory disaster, the Nimrod air crash in Afghanistan and the Super Puma North Sea helicopter crash. With a dedicated Serious Injuries Unit, they are also extremely skilled in acting in medical negligence cases, with particular experience of cerebral palsy and birth cases.
Partners Pamela Loudon, David McIntosh and Lisa Gregory are Accredited Specialists in Personal Injury Law by the Law Society of Scotland.
The Litigation Team also offers expertise in administrative, public and human rights law and carries out a large volume of judicial reviews as well as professional disciplinary and regulatory work. The department also deals with general commercial and civil litigation including contractual and property disputes and professional negligence claims, as well as employment law, real estate and debt recovery.
The Employment Team have particular expertise in Employment and Social Media issues and are often invited to speak at external seminars on this matter.
The Family Law Team has considerable experience in financial provision and international child abduction. Andrew Gibb, Shona Smith, Alastair Milne and Morven Douglas are accredited as Family Law Specialists. The firm also has four solicitor-advocates (civil).
Private Client: The Private Client Team advises on the preparation of wills and inheritance tax mitigation. Executry and trust administration is a particular speciality and tax advice is given. The firm have a unique and dedicated client Welfare Team that specialise in providing a range of services to elderly, disabled or vulnerable clients. The Property Team offers a one-stop service for those involved in the residential property market, including advice on the purchase and sale of properties as well as leases. A full estate agency service is offered.
Commercial: The Commercial Team offers advice in most areas of commercial practice. It has notable experience in all commercial property matters, whether leasing, buying, property investment or lending. For those starting in business, companies are incorporated and company secretarial services are provided. Partnership agreements are prepared and interpreted. Services are offered in relation to professional appointments and licensing.
Charities: The Charities and Social Housing Team is one of Scotland’s leading teams providing services to this sector, including the setting up and operation of a charity, contracts, property and employment law.
