Specialisation: Joel has defended in virtually every major terrorist trial in recent years,most recently securing the acquittal of one of the men charged with conspiring with the 2005 Tube bombers. He has acted in cases of murder, fraud and armed robbery. A significant part of his work consists of appeals to the Court of Appeal, House of Lords and ECHR and he has won landmark appeals in all three. Outside the criminal field, Joel has considerable experience of litigating the effects of crime in the civil courts; he has sucessfully sued for murder and is currently acting for torture victims who claim the UK was complicit in their mistreatment. He has written and broadcast in oppostion to the special status given to the USA under the Extradition Act 2003 and has appeared in cases opposing the same.
