Career: Ll.B (Hons) 1987, PhD (1992). Lecturer in law at the University of Birmingham from 1990-92. Called 1993. Now consistently instructed for the defence as a leader and junior in high profile criminal cases including R v A first cited case (directing terrorism), R v Ali and others (alleged plot to blow up transatlantic aircraft), R v Khan and others (plot to kidnap British muslim soldier), R v Ibrahim and others (21/7 attempted tube bombings), R v B (alleged drugs conspiracy), R v Martin and others (Birmingham New Year shootings), R v Morris (Clydach Murders), R v Kebilene and others (GIA) and R v Hulme and others (real IRA bombing of BBC). Also has considerable experience in appellate work with notable cases including K (2008) (Court of Appeal - s 58 of Terrorism Act 2000), Hasan (House of Lords - duress and confessions), Al'Fawwaz and others (House of Lords - anonymity) and Pinfold and Mackenny (Court of Appeal - expert evidence).
