THE CHAMBERS Tanfield Chambers is a modern Chancery set. The product of a highly successful merger in 2001 of two established Temple sets, following recent recruitment Chambers now consists of 72 barristers and 12 members of staff. Chambers owns its own premises just outside Gray’s Inn and aims to increase membership again over the next 12 months following a policy of selective recruitment.
WORK UNDERTAKEN Chambers’ core areas of work are (in alphabetical order) business and commercial, employment, private client and property. Members of chambers tend to belong to not more than two of these groups, and are encouraged to develop their own sub-specialisms within their practice areas. This, allied to the fact that each group has its own dedicated clerking team, enables chambers to ensure that its clients are provided with a barrister who is equipped to deal with the demands of the particular case.
PUBLICATIONS Recent publications by members of chambers include Commercial Property Litigation (2012, Jordans), Leasehold Enfranchisement Explained (2010, RICS), and Service Charges and Management; Law and Practice (2nd Ed. 2009, Sweet & Maxwell). Chambers also includes amongst its membership the editors of Harvey industrial Relations and Employment Law, the Educational Manual, and the editors-in-chief of Smith and Monkcom; the Law of Gambling (3rd Ed. Tottel Publishing).
