MAIN AREAS OF PRACTICE:
Banking & finance: Mayora & Mayora covers different areas of banking and finance, including secured and syndicated loan transactions and guarantees, structured and project finance, leasing and tax-based finance.
Corporate: The firm deals with all aspects of general corporate law, including international contracts and transactions. The lawyers coordinate and advise global companies on acquisitions and the due diligence process.
Securities & Financial Markets: Mayora & Mayora advises clients on Guatemalan law pertaining to investment funds, securities and derivatives. It also assists investment firms in structuring and licensing their operations.
Taxation: The firm has extensive experience assisting clients in the commercial, industrial and financial sectors of the economy with their tax matters in this critical area of the law. In addition to our general experience in tax planning and tax litigation, Eduardo A Mayora has been a memeber of the Board of directors of the Superintendence of the Tax Administration (1998-2000); Ana Alfaro is the Tax Law Professor at the Law School of the UNIS, AND Ana Raquel Villeda, and assistant professor at USAC.

Intellectual property: The IP Department ofMayora & Mayora is headed by the founding partner Eduardo Mayora Dawe,who has exceptional experience with trademarks, patents, and all other aspects of intellectual property law, including industrial rights and copyrights. He is one of the founders of the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property and the firm is also a member of the International Trademark Association. Additionally, Eduardo Mayora Dawe has been Guatemala’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States, director of AIPPI and of ASIPI; Eduardo A.Mayora represents the Association Henri Capitant des Amis de la Culture Juridique Française, has been vice president of the Latin American Forum of the International Bar Association and director of Lex Mundi; Rafael Briz is president of the Official Guatemalan Spanish Chamber of Commerce. In 2005 partners Claudia Pereira and Rafael Briz were included in the Latin Lawyer magazine ‘40 under 40’, a review of Central America’s leading lawyers under 40 years of age. In the article Rafael Briz was also acknowledged by his colleagues as an expert in electric energy matters in the region.

• In 2008-09 the firm granted a partial scholarship to its associates Ana Rosa Alfaro and Sandra Castillo in order to pursue a Master’s on Business Law given by the Universidad Católica de Chile; Santiago Velasco, another associate, was fully sponsored by the firm to attend the 2010 Lex Mundi Institute’s session in Monterey, California and Roberto Ayala has been fully sponsored by the firm to attend the 2011 session, both on Cross- Border Transactions.
