Carl Gustaf De Geer is widely considered to be an excellent lawyer, with sources saying his performance is "always first class.”

Experienced practitioner Bertil Villard recently advised a consortium of entrepreneurs on the sale of Domsjö Fabriker.

Johan Winnerblad earns praise for his “great transactional experience and ability to put together a stellar team and lead it well." He is particularly active in the financial services, TMT, and life sciences sectors.

According to sources, Christina Kokko is “service-minded and user-friendly. She is a great project manager and helps clients quickly assess what is critical.” She advises clients from the retail, life sciences, and media areas.

Qualified in Germany, Ulrich Ziche is well placed to act on mandates with a German aspect.

Stockholm-based Marcus Glader spent several years working in the Brussels office of the firm. He impresses clients with his proactive approach, with one source saying that "he is great at finding solutions and avoiding problems."

Martin Johansson is based in Brussels and wins plaudits for his experience in advising Swedish clients on competition issues.

Brussels-based Kristian Hugmark is a respected competition law practitioner.  

The multi-talented Dick Lundqvist is recognised as one the strongest and most experienced lawyers in the market. He advised VeriFone Systems on its EUR600 million acquisition of Point.

Manfred Löfvenhaft is another highly regarded member of the team. “There are few people with his breadth and depth of knowledge. He is bright and has a strong reputation,” clients comment.

Mats Hugoson advised Procuritas Capital Investors on its acquisition of the Perimeter Protection Group.

Anders Lundin is an experienced and well-liked practitioner. “I really enjoy dealing with him. He's on top of all the details and is a great negotiator,” says one commentator.

Market observers agree that Carl Westerberg is an up-and-comer to watch. He advised Hakon on the sale of Hemmabutikerna Sverige to Elon Elkedjan Logistic.

Heading the team, Biörn Riese is regarded as an authority on M&A. Clients laud his "calm and collected manner, and incredibly broad knowledge base." Another source adds: "He is extremely deal-driven and commercial, and really knows how to move deals forward.”

Sources appreciate Jan Holmius for his "pragmatism and great market experience."

Bo Söderberg continues to be in high demand, with market observers saying: "We want him on our side, but unfortunately he is too often on the other side!"

Head of public M&A Eva Hägg goes up in the rankings thanks to substantial praise. She advised Haldex on the spin-off of Concentric to its shareholders.

Experienced corporate lawyer Åke Kjellson is well respected by peers, who say he is "easy to work with and a pleasure to be against."

Recognised for being "technically skilled and detail-oriented," Fredrik Andretzky chairs the firm's financial institutions group and has added experience in private equity.

Mattias Karlsson handles real estate and M&A, advising clients on investments, joint ventures, restructuring, and due diligence.

Patrik Marcelius has particular expertise in public M&A and equity capital markets. His enviable clientele include international companies and private equity houses.

Adam Green has extensive experience advising American clients, having worked in a leading New York firm and advising clients such as Coca-Cola.

Africa-wide expert Peter Linderoth has standout M&A and project finance experience. He has previously been involved in projects in Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, both Congos and Gabon.

UK and Sweden-qualified Sarah Hoskins spent seven years working in competition and EU matters in a prominent UK firm.

Based in Moscow, the multilingual Sven Lexner is admitted to the Swedish Bar and frequently acts for major Swedish clients on M&A and dispute resolution mandates.

Stefan Perván Lindeborg heads the firm's Brussels office. He is particularly experienced in merger control and competition litigation.

Respected figure Wilhelm Lüning wins particular plaudits for his public M&A practice. He recently represented Billerud in the acquisition of UPM-Kymmene, a packaging paper business.

Department head Petter Wirell is regarded by market sources as “a great lawyer with a busy practice.” His areas of expertise include M&A, private equity, venture capital, and commercial contracts.

Clients laud Carl-Johan Deuschl as an “ambitious practitioner who understands the business angle of a deal.” He advised Domtar on the acquisition of Attends Healthcare Group from Rutland Partners.

Lars Bärnheim brings a “hard-working, hands-on approach” to his practice.

Jan Jensen is enormously experienced in both public and private M&A. He recently acted for Gunnebo on the sale of its Perimeter Protection business.

Sören Lindström is a highly regarded corporate partner. He heads the public M&A team and has a particular focus on corporate finance.

Richard Åkerman is a firm favourite with clients.

Christoffer Saidac advised Mekonomen on the acquisition of MECA Scandinavia.

Sara Kersby Mindus covers public M&A and equity capital markets.

Admitted to practice in Norway and Sweden, Anett Kristin Lilliehöök's impressive experience includes a stint in the Oslo office of an international law firm. She heads the firm's Norwegian desk.

Liana Thorkildsen has notable experience working on Sweden-Russia merger control issues, cartel investigations and cartel appeals. She is a fluent Russian speaker.

Corporate head Fredrik Lindqvist handles public and private M&A, in addition to company and securities law. “He is amongst the top lawyers in Sweden. He is exceptionally commercial and tuned in to the market, and stands out for his level of energy and commitment,” satisfied clients report.

Roger Johnson recently joined the firm, bringing notable private equity expertise. His clients include Advent, EQT, and Ratos.

Elisabet Lundgren impresses clients with her “down-to-earth, responsive, and detail-oriented approach.” She has experience working with clients in the IT, media, and business services.   

Managing associate Charlotte Demegård divides her time between the London and Stockholm offices advising clients on employment matters in both locations.

Jonas Koponen operates from Brussels with a focus on competition law. Clients praise him for "driving the process forward, taking care of each and every step and making sure nothing falls through the cracks."

Axel Calissendorff is credited as the driving force behind the firm.

Clients note Jens Bengtsson's experience in the medical technology arena.

Malin Leffler focuses on private M&A, advising international and domestic corporates and private equity houses.

Ola Åhman has particular expertise in corporate governance and also handles public M&A and equity capital markets. He counts Old Mutual and Securitas amongst his clients.

Pontus Enquist elicits enthusiastic praise from market observers. His work covers public M&A, equity capital markets, and corporate governance.

Mårten Willamo is a member of the Finnish Bar and has extensive experience working in the country.

Christian Wik is based in Helsinki, where he regularly advises Swedish clients on competition law issues.

Ulf Johansson works on M&A and private equity, recently advising Cellmark on its acquisition of Axe Papier Holding. Clients say they “consistently get a great service" from him.

Claes Zettermarck is widely regarded as one of the strongest practitioners in the market. He wins respect from peers, one of whom says: “He is a formidable opponent. If I had a problem I would go straight to him.”

Rolf Olofsson has superb international experience, having qualified in Sweden and Belgium. He is also admitted to practice in the USA as a foreign legal consultant, and his practice focuses on space, satellites and telecommunications. 

Pontus Lindfelt  divides his time between the firm's Stockholm and Brussels offices, winning plaudits from clients for his clear, direct advice. 

Department head Peder Hammarskiöld is one of the market's most respected figures. “He has great experience. He directs us well and has a first-rate understanding of cross-border issues for multinationals,” say interviewees.

Anders Fast's practice covers M&A, real estate, and private equity. He recently advised Becton Dickinson on the acquisition of Carmel Pharma.

Clients praise Carl Svernlöv for "quickly getting to grips with the key issues."

Germany-based Jon-Marcus Meese has extensive experience advising Swedish clients, having previously practised in Stockholm. He covers M&A, joint ventures, private equity, and reorganisations.

Department head Martin Börresen is an experienced and exceptionally accomplished corporate lawyer. Market sources say he combines “great commercial understanding with impressive legal knowledge.”

A prime choice for international work, Mat Hansson is a UK-qualified lawyer who is regularly involved in cross-border matters with a UK element. He is "extremely quick and responsive, and has a very good feel for the business aspect," according to clients.  

Mats Johnsson splits his time between Brussels and Stockholm, regularly advising on EU and Swedish competition law. He has particular experience advising on cartels and abuse of dominant position matters.

Anders Malmström enters the rankings this year following strong praise from market sources: "He is solution-oriented and gives objective advice. He is able to evaluate the important issues and focus on them.”

Mathias Berggren is noted by commentators for his strength in the oil sector. One client praised him as "smart, flexible, and commercial." He is head of the firm's Australian desk,  which offers particular expertise on corporate and media transactions.

Mattias Detterfelt is the key contact for this area, covering a broad range of corporate matters. He previously worked at a major international firm in New York.  

Interviewees laud Anders Bäckman for his “ability to quickly understand the scope, nature, and complexity of each matter." He focuses on issues relating to M&A, joint ventures, and commercial contracts.   

Department head Jens André is widely praised for his "energy and enthusiasm, and the way he truly cares about the customer."  

The firm is adept at advising clients on cross-border issues in the Baltic region thanks to its Baltic Sea Group. Lawyers in the Stockholm office advise on banking and finance, M&A, transportation, employment and TMT issues in the area. Mango Kask and Patric Olofsson are the contacts in Stockholm.

Lawyers in Stockholm and Copenhagen collaborate to form the German desk. Stockholm-based Jürgen Conzen founded the firm's German desk and assists a range of impressive clients including Liebherr Group and the Hawsko Group.

Tallinn-based Karolina Ullman is fluent in Swedish and qualified in Sweden. She is well placed to advise Swedish clients active in Estonia, with particular experience representing Swedish companies establishing in the country.

Corporate/M&A: Sweden (Foreign Desks)

Carl-Olof Bouveng has extensive experience in all aspects of corporate/M&A and is a member of the New York State Bar. He was previously the Chairman of the International Section of the New York State Bar Association. Sources say he is “incredibly committed and commercial, with a great client focus.”  He heads the US desk at this firm, which focuses on corporate finance, M&A and private equity.

Lindahl is also home to an East European desk that is active in Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It handles cross-border investments, corporate/M&A, intellectual property and dispute resolution. It is headed by Jesper Tiberg, while Ginta Ahrel is the key contact for corporate matters, Therese Isaksson for disputes and IP, and Michael Nyman for banking and finance.

The China desk at this firm advises clients on China-related projects in Sweden. It covers a range of areas, including property investments, joint ventures and dispute resolution, and is particularly experienced acting for clients from the IT, energy and environmental sectors. Stefan Erhag heads the team.

Admitted to practice in Sweden and the UK, Kristina Einarsson of Setterwalls covers capital markets, corporate finance and public and private M&A.

Andreas Reindl of Advokatfirman Öberg & Associés is a member of the New York Bar and practised US and European antitrust with the Washington, DC office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Based in South Korea, tax lawyer Stefan Moller of Kim & Chang covers tax pricing and general tax consulting, with a focus on the Scandinavian countries.
Foreign Experts (Based Abroad)
Dual-qualified in Sweden and Germany, Ralf Ek of Jones Day gains plaudits for his experience advising Nordic companies investing in Germany.
London-based Anders Grundberg of McGuireWoods is a former chairman of the  Swedish Chamber of Commerce in London. He focuses on advising foreign businesses and private clients on establishing in the UK and related tax planning.
Sven Papp of Raidla Lejins & Norcous in Tallinn is experienced advising Swedish clients active in Estonia, having previously worked at a Swedish law firm. 
James Farrington of Wiggin and Dana LLP combines vast US and European experience to serve a number of Swedish clients. His practice focuses on acquisitions, joint ventures and licensing, and he has substantial experience in the life sciences field. Mathias Hansen of Latham & Watkins is part of the firm's Scandinavian practice in Germany. His fluency in Swedish, German and English allows him to adroitly handle cross-border deals.
Patricia Kavee Melick  operates from Wiggin and Dana's Stamford office and advises life sciences companies on M&A, strategic alliances and licensing. She previously worked in Mannheimer Swartling's Stockholm office.
