Practice Areas: John Yong Ren is a Founder and Managing Partner of T&D Associates, in Beijing, China. Since being approved as a certified lawyer in 1988, he has been practicing in the fields of antitrust, international trade and arbitration. He is one of the few professionals who has been involved in China’s Antimonopoly Law legislation since its very beginning. Since the early 1990s, he has been actively contributing his opinions on the legislation of Anti-Monopoly Law to China’s legislature. He founded the first and biggest anti-trust group of China in May 2003, and has been providing extensive legal services in antitrust to multinationals in diverse industries. Up till now, he has represented multinationals in a total of over 80 antitrust notifications in China. T&D is the only Chinese local firm that has ever been involved in Cartel and Abuse cases initiated by Chinese antitrust authorities, in which he successfully safeguarded legitimate interests of his clients. In addition, he translated and introduced Antitrust Law and Economics by William Kovacic into China. Since 2005, he has co-hosted with the Competition Law Centre of University of International Business and Economics 21 Anti-Monopoly Law Symposiums, with participants covering senior officials from China antitrust authorities, US DOJ, US FTC, EU DG Comp, JFTC, Chinese top antitrust scholars and experts, various multinationals, etc.
Professional Memberships: John Yong Ren serves as arbitrator in China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, and a panel member in both the Antitrust Committee and the Antidumping Committee in Beijing Lawyers Association.
Personal: Before John Yong Ren was a professional lawyer, he served as Deputy Division Chief in the Department of Policy & Regulation, and Ministry of Aero-Space Industry of the PRC. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Law from Peking University, his Master’s Degree from The American University, and his Doctorate Degree in International Business Law from the University of International Business and Economics.
